Marketing Case Study

Virtual Dressing Rooms
Have you ever gone to a store and struggle with not wanting to try things on, just to get home and not like the way it looks on you? Or just not want to change in and out of different items to discover you don't like how they look?

Zugara and Cisco are innovating a new way to try clothing items on. They call it the Virtual Dressing Room or Virtual Fashion Mirror. With this customers are able to see how a clothing item will look on them without trying the item on.

How many people have used X-Box Kinect?

This system is very similar to that technology used. Take a look here.

Stores implementing this technology would be able to cut down on other costs. Working in the retail industry, I can see that there won't be a huge need for recovery. Without that big need, people will be able to focus more on their customer service skills and not focusing more on recovering. Businesses also won't need to hire employees to help with recovering.

This caught my attention because I'm going into Apparel Design and want to create custom clothing for people. This technology would make it so I could put my designs into it and allow people to see my designs on them before I even create the item. It would also allow customers to pick and choose aspects that they would prefer over others to provide them with exactly what they want.

If I were to market this, I would try to lower the price of it to allow some small businesses to incorporate this in their business. I would also market it on Facebook so people are aware of this and encourage corporations to use this in their stores.

Week 2 Listening Exercise

Social Listening

The brand I'm going to be listening about is Allann Brothers since they are one of my favorite coffee places.

The value proposition for Allann Brothers is that they create an experience for the customer whether they are frantically preparing for an exam, getting coffee with a friend, or just getting their morning coffee. They provide a nice sitting area with Wi-Fi so students, writer's, or business people can do the work they need to.

"Putting in time at the office," one person says! And the company responded, "we are happy to be your office anytime." The company responded by being open to everyday people using their sitting area for their work area. They value their customers and would love to see them come back. I know I have spent countless hours at Allann Bros working on my homework and studying for finals.

This next one the person said, "Found a great place in downtown Eugene for coffee." Another person responded, "glad you found it. long time fav and Eugene staple." This shows how valued the company is and that the environment is why people come back. They start to build friendship with the barista's the more the come in.
This last one says, "Crazy eyes! National coffee day is good, but even better when your favorite coffee brand order shows up." If I had been the company I would've responded by saying how grateful I was for them and their dedication to the company and say how blessed I am to make their National coffee day even better.

Allann Brothers sells coffee, tea, cold brew, baked goods, salads, sandwiches, and more. Their main focus is the coffee and tea. With their excellent customer service, they are able to sell their brand.

One of the big aspects on marketing is their logo. It's on all their cups and signs, and is recognizable in the area. They also have it on their cars and trucks for deliveries. With those vehicles being driven around, they are being use to market the brand and people want to try it out. One of the challenges that they face is how many competitors they have and that there isn't a drive through. They compete with Starbucks, Dutch Brothers, Coffee Culture, Human Bean, and Tried and True Coffee. Half of those you are able to quickly get your drink and head off. While Allann Brothers allows you to sit down or take your coffee to go, but if you're in a rush to class and don't want to get out of the car that would cause a problem. The customer would probably choose a different coffee shop.

If I was the brand manager, I would really listen to what my customers are saying. Sure there might be a lot of good things being said about the company, but there are some things that people say they wished for. Some were talking about the food and how it isn't like it once was. I would really pay attention to that and maybe even pose a question to the customers. Maybe ask them what they want on the menu. I could also focus on the transactions and be able to tell what people order the most of and what they order the least of.

My First Marketing Assignment

Topic 1

I wanted to take marketing because it is required for my major, but I am also interested in running my own business. Since I want to run my own business, I thought it would be good to learn more about marketing and how to market a business properly.

I am currently a business management major and I will also be majoring in apparel design.

I'm most interested in learning on how to successfully market a business. With wanting to open up my own clothing store one day, it would help to know how to to market a business.

One of my passions is sewing. I have made many dresses, a toddler jacket, a quilt, and a hat. One of my other passions is music. I play the ukulele right now, but I have learned how to play the violin, clarinet, and alto saxophone as well. I also enjoy listening to music and not just playing music.

Topic 2

Motorola G6 Play Sighted In Leaked Promo Materials.

I was looking a pictures of advertisements when I saw the Motorola G6 advertisement. I was compelled because it showed a person partially in the phone. It made me think that phones have become a huge part of our everyday lives and how the phones suck us in. The picture even says " you in" with the "in" being on the screen of the phone.

In the article it talks about what the G6 Play is going to be like. Th G6 Play will not have a home button but it will have a rear-mounted fingerprint reader. They are making it to appeal to the younger generation.

The value proposition of Motorola is that they are providing a more simple smart phone to this generation of people.

The marketing strategy they uses was to pull you into their advertisement. With the person being within the phone screen helped pull you in as well.

The challenge Motorola faces is that they aren't the only phone brand. They are competing with iPhone and Android, which means they arent' the only one selling smart phones.

Their marketing strategy is to use bright colors and not very many words. They get as much information into a picture without using a lot of words. With the younger generation, companies  need to catch their attention quickly or they just aren't interested in it. They will quickly scroll past it. Using those brighter colors allows the viewer to stop and actually view the image to see what it is about. With only having a few words allows them to keep the viewers attention and know what they are selling.

If I was the one marketing this advertisement, I would try to make it consume you more. I'd also list a couple of the features for the phone that make it better than other phones. I'd make it so the phone looks like it is really there and not two dimensional.

I feel like the marketing approach was good and eye catching.

I learned that marketing a product that is already a product is difficult. If it doesn't catch the consumers eyes, they just move on because its just another smart phone and they already have one so why would it matter.
